Well, another year is about to show up in the rear view, like some shit we need to separate ourselves from. Before it evaporates into the horizon, let's take a look back, so we won't forget the good times. I thought this list was gonna be way cooler than it is. It ain't pretty, but here are the songs that hit me the hardest in 2011.

Never trust a Ginger, except one that will fly in AND cut through the customs line, just 'cause some bitches are talkin' shit about you in the dog park. The lesson? The redheaded stepchild will always love you harder than the cool kid.

#24 Alexander - A Million Years
You had me at "I love you like grave danger."

#23 NeedToBreathe - Drive All Night
The classic American/ Springsteen theme of getting the fuck outta Dodge. The urgency of youth. I love the line "Somewhere in this wretched tale, there must be a line where the victim gets his way, just one time."

#22 Jamie Woon - Night Air
Ominous as fuck. I love the space in the verse melody. Singers lack grace these days. They stumble all over the beat like they're cleaning up orange juice with their socks. Jamie goes one for one with the groove like a fuckin' battle.

#21 Go Radio - Goodnight Moon
Generic shit. The ballad from the band you saw on Warped Tour. I don't know... I dig his voice. I like the way he pronounces his words. And it's a pretty good song. Don't hate.

#20 Mr. Muthafuckin Exquire ft. Despot, Das Racist, Danny Brown, El-P - The Last Huzzah (remix)
Hipster Hip Hop. A bunch of dudes, stoned the fuck out, talkin' about absolutely nothing. Lines like 'Pouring vodka sodas over 4 leaf clovers" and "Michael Jackson is Monty Python" are highlights.

#19 AWOLNATION - Sail
Hints of dubstep. Fresh sounding record. Too bad he shit the bed on the album by not knowing what he does best and trying a bunch of other shit.

#18 Eric Church - Drink In My Hand
A well written drinking song. I love how the lyrics come full circle, from Monday morning and back. It's tough to write like that without changing some lines in the hook. Good work.

#17 Seryn - We Will All Be Changed
Gotta get right with God... Gotta get right with God.

#16 Amos Lee - Violin
That intense level of urgency that comes with anxiety. Gettin' pissed at God, like "where the fuck you been?" And it all sounds so pretty.

#15 Yelawolf feat. Eminem & Gangsta Boo - Throw It Up
Hard. Southern. Shit.

#14 Airborne Toxic Event - All For A Woman
"The muse inspired the art." Like Terrence Trent D'arby said, "All poets must have an unrequited love." #Bitches.

#13 Skrillex - Scary Monsters And Nice Sprites
The fashion designer of Dubstep. Skillex has unbelievable taste. His tones are incredible. His melodies tight.

#12 GROUPLOVE - Colours (Captain Cuts remix)
There was a shitload of bands like this that emerged in '10/'11. These lo fi, unisex, Post hipster, neo hippie types. Hand claps. Synths. Everybody sings the chorus. Someone usually plays mandolin on one song. The girl, tambourine. This is the remix. It's better than the original.

#11 Nas - Nasty
Nas just comes hard as fuck on this.

#10 The Civil Wars - Poison And Wine
The give and take. The male/ female perspective that rings incredibly true. And the lyric "I don't love you, but I always will"... 'nuff said.

#9 David Nail - Half Mile Hill
I fucking love the lyric "Wishing I could fly like a cut string kite, tapping on the floor of heaven. Is anybody listening?" The rest of us would have wrote "door".

#8 Clams Casino - I'm God
I have no idea what the lyrics are. I thought it said "Guess what? I've been fucked up, depressed." I googled it once and that's not it. I love it for the production. Everything he does. Fresh. Raw. #Sushi

#7 Tyler, The Creator - Yonkers
"Threesomes with a fucking triceratops." "Jesus called. He said he's sick of the disses. I told him to quit bitchin'. This isn't a fucking hotline." "I'm a fucking walking paradox. No I'm not." I could quote this song all day.

#6 James Blake and Bon Iver - Falls Creek Boys Choir
I'll give you 5 bucks if you can tell me what he's singing about. I'm a lyric guy, but I don't know a fucking lyric to ANY James Blake or Bon Iver songs. I can't understand what the fuck they're sayin', but I love the vocal production and the soundscapes they create.

#5 Frank Ocean - Strawberry Swing
"You know how I know you're gay? You listen to Coldplay." Well, I had no idea this was a Coldplay sample, so... Anyways, I love the lyric "When we were kids we hand painted strawberries on a swing. Everything was so simple then." That's a pretty organic lyric for a male r&b track.

#4 Bingo Players - Cry (Just A Little) (Olav Basoski remix)
I have ruined the carpet in my apartment because of this song. The girl in the video for the original is really hot. This is the remix. Olav pitch shifts that catchy ass vocal sample to make it that much more addictive.

#3 Bon Iver - Holocene
As mentioned above, I have no idea what the fuck Bon Iver sings about, but the records are just so damn beautiful.

#2 The Weeknd - The Morning
This shit is just so damn hard. Girls calling cabs at dawn. Drinking Alize for breakfast. Split life livin' between Cali and Toronto. Man, I would that this shit was my diary somedays. #17Forever

#1 Drake - Marvin's Room
Drunk dialing. Shit canned at the club. Paying for sluts flights and hotels. Having sex 4 times a week and being ashamed. A wise man once said, "Do not worry about avoiding temptation. As you get older, it will avoid you." Beyond a gentle discipline, be good to yourself, Drake.
